GUNTUR: Andhra Pradesh Medical Services & Infrastructure Development (APMSIDC) has taken up various development works at an estimated cost of `18 crore in the  Government General Hospital in the city to provide quality medical treatment to people. A service block and and a seniors residence building are coming up on the GGH premises. The five-storey service block consists of a medical record department, workshop, administration, reception, laundry, canteen and other wings. It is estimated to cost `10 crore. The construction of seniors residence building was taken up at a cost of `7 crore. About 90 senior resident doctors can stay in the five-storey building. A sum of `1 crore was allocated for internal roads, drinking water and other basic amenities.

The old buildings of GGH are capable of accommodating more floors.  The old buildings will be replaced with multi-storey structures. Presently, there are 34 old blocks in the GGH. A Mother Child Hospital building was also sanctioned for the GGH long ago. According to Dr Y Ramesh, RMO, a decision on the `35 crore Mother Child Hospital project would be taken soon by Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas.
APMSIDC Executive Engineer Y Ashok Kumar said all the development works taken up in the GGH would be completed as per schedule.
