President Ram Nath Kovind calls Telugu language of wisdom as curtains draw on World Telugu Conference

HYDERABAD: On a day President Ram Nath Kovind praised Telugu as “a language of learning and wisdom, of protest and liberty, of national pride and universal values, the State government has decided to conduct the Telangana Telugu Conference for two days every December.Ram Nath Kovind, who attended as the chief guest for the closing ceremony of five-day mega event World Telugu Conference at LB Stadium on Tuesday, extolled the Telugu language and Telugu people. The President quoted Srikrishna Devearaya, former king and writer: “Desa Bhashalandu Telugu lessa” (among all the languages in the country, Telugu is the best).

In his initial remarks, CM K Chandrashekar Rao announced that the government will conduct the Telangana Telugu Conference for two days in December every year. However, the Chief Minister deferred his proposed announcements to be made on Tuesday on the development of Telugu as a language. 
“We will convene a meeting soon with literary personalities soon and announce several decisions in the first week of January,” the CM said.Rao said that the government had already decided to implement Telugu as a compulsory language from first class to Intermediate. Everyone studying in Telangana, including whose mother tongue is  not Telugu should, learn Telugu and orders were issued already. 

The problems of Telugu Language Pandits were discussed and they would be resolved very soon after overcoming the legal hurdles, the CM said. Rao also said instructions were issued not to cut the pension amounts for retired Telugu Language Pandits.In all, 250 books were released, around 30 cultural programmes were organised and massive Kavi Sammelanam with around 1,500 Telugu poets were conducted in the five-day Telugu Conference, conducted for the first time in the separate Telangana State.

In a hand-written letter addressed to Rao, she described her visit as an “incredible and inspiring experience”. “I also want to thank you for the exquisite gift that you presented to me at the Falaknuma Palace. I am deeply touched by your thoughtful gesture,” she wrote.
