GUNTUR: The construction of inner ring road (IRR) in the city is yet to be completed though the project was taken up 12 years ago. The project was launched in 2005. It was envisaged to execute the project in three phases, which include Auto Nagar to Amaravati Road, Amaravati Road to Swarnabharati Nagar and RTO office to Perecherla connecting Pedapalakaluru. Initially, it was scheduled to complete the project within two years.
The project was stopped midway after completion of the first two phases. The third phase, which falls in the city limits, has remained a non-starter even after several years.
The road project will provide access to capital Amaravati via Perecherla. The undue delay in completion of the inner ring road has caused severe traffic congestion in the city after the temporary secretariat started functioning at Velagapudi.
There is no progress in the third phase of the inner ring road, though people of Adavi Takkellapadu, China Palakaluru and Perecherla are ready to give their lands for the project.
Now, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has taken the initiative to complete the inner ring road as it helps ease traffic congestion in the city in a big way besides strengthening road connectivity to capital Amaravati.
Guntur Municipal Corporation deputy city planner B Satyanarayana said: “The APCRDA has directed us to take up a survey for execution of the third phase of inner ring road project. Some encroachments have come up in the area. The matter will be informed to the APCRDA.”
