Bank staff in Vijayawada strike work against privatisation

VIJAYAWADA: Employees of nationalised banks on Tuesday struck work for a day against the Centre’s alleged move to privatise the banking sector. 


Various bank employees associations took out demonstrations on the premises of State Bank of India Gandhinagar Branch in the city.


Members of Krishna District Bank Employees Coordination Committee (KDBECC) and Vijayawada Bank Employees Coordination Committee  VBECC) took part in the protest against the Centre’s “anti-people labour and banking reforms”. 


Addressing the gathering,  VBECC secretary K Nagesh Kumar said that union government was trying to weaken the nationalised banks and encouraging private sector. 


He also urged the government to fill the vacant posts in various banks. M Mallikarjuna Rao, representative of bank officers association, alleged that the Centre is making moves to infringe upon the rights of trade unions. He demanded the Union government to implement a compassionate appointment scheme in the banking sector.
