Online gambling addict ends life after losing savings on Rummy Circle

Depressed over losing money on online gambling site 'Rummy Circle', one youth reportedly committed suicide in his room by taking sleeping pills on Wednesday.

VIJAYAWADA: Depressed over losing money on online gambling site 'Rummy Circle', one youth reportedly committed suicide in his room by taking sleeping pills on Wednesday.

According to Suryaraopet police, the deceased was identified as Udhayaman (32), a native of Kerala working as a lab technician in a private hospital in city and allegedly addicted to gambling sites. He was residing at Suryaraopet along with his three other colleagues. Udhyaman was a gaming freak and got addicted to online rummy websites after he got a new smartphone a year ago.

One of the friends of the deceased told police that Udhyaman used to lose all his earnings in the online gambling games and even could not pay room rent sometimes. "He even borrowed money from us after falling into debt trap with online rummy sites. We warned many times not to get addicted with such sites," he said .

He further said Udhyaman was normal in the initial days but he got attracted to the ads posted by online gambling sites and spent huge money which he acquired from others in the form of debts. "He lost all his savings and finally lost his job in a hospital a month ago," his roommates added.

Suryaraopet circle inspector G Vinay Mohan said Udhyaman used to spend his entire salary on rummy and lost all his money.

A case under mysterious death was booked and body was sent to GGH for post-mortem.

"We have primarily identified that Udhayaman committed suicide by taking some medicines as he was a lab technician. We will get full details of his death once we receive reports from Forensic department," the CI said.
