ELURU: AgriGold chairman Avva Venkata Rama Rao and his brother and managing director Avva Venkata Seshu Narayana Rao, the accused in the multi-crore inter-State scam, fell ill in the district jail here on Monday and shifted to the government hospital in Vijayawada.
It may be recalled here that Ghantasala Venkatesh of Pedapadu lodged a complaint in the local police station that the cheque for Rs 40,000 given by AgriGold to his grandmother, a depositor, bounced. Based on the complaint, the Pedapadu police registered a case against the AgriGold management.
Rama Rao was named as Accused No 1 and Narayana Rao as A-4 in the case. The duo were arrested by the CID in Hyderabad on February 11, 2016. Later, they were produced in District Sessions Court in Eluru and were remanded. Rama Rao and Narayana Rao have been in judicial remand in the district jail for the past 14 months.
According to the jail authorities, Rama Rao complained of chest pain after having breakfast. His brother Narayana Rao complained of some respiratory problem. The jail officials immediately shifted them to Eluru government hospital. After taking ECG, the doctors advised the jail officials to shift Rama Rao to Vijayawada government hospital. They also suggested them to shift Narayana Rao also to Vijayawada for better treatment. Following the advice of doctors, the jail officials shifted the two brothers to Vijayawada government hospital.
Rama Rao was admitted to NIMS in Hyderabad in January this year with a cardiac problem. After getting a stent implanted on January 31, he underwent treatment at NIMS till March 23. On the advice of doctors of Vijayawada government hospital, Rama Rao was shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad again.
