Nearly, 800 cusecs of water was being shifted from Gorukallu Reservoir to Owk Reservoir for irrigation and drinking water purposes through the SRBC. Around 4 am, the canal breached on the outskirts of Banaganapalle town.

With the flooding of the bus station, RTC officials had to confine buses to the depot. Several commercial shops in and around the bus stand downed their shutters. Even motorists faced a lot of problems to reach the other end of Pendikanti Nagar with the water inundating Papili road.

Superintendent engineer G Surya Kumar said a small hole developed on a wall due to which the canal bund weakened and developed a breach. “Restoration efforts have been taken up and most of the work has been completed. We are inspecting the entire stretch of the canal to identify the problem,” he added.

Kumar asserted that the problem had been sorted out. Meanwhile, flood waters from the Srisailam Right Bank Canal entered several households in the region bringing normal life to a halt and causing damage to property.
