HYDERABAD: Pointing out that the police have failed to arrest the real culprits in the Ayesha Meera murder case, the counsel appearing for the parents of the victim on Monday told the Hyderabad High Court that it was a fit case to order re-investigation to unearth the facts in the case.

Advocate D Suresh Kumar, appearing for Ayesha Meera’s parents Syed Iqbal Basha and Shamshad Begum, was making submissions before the division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J Uma Devi dealing with petitions filed by them and Prof Rama S Melkote and two others seeking direction to AP government to initiate re-investigation into the sensational rape and murder case.

They sought a court-monitored SIT probe or CBI investigation in view of the observations made by the High Court while acquitting P Satyam Babu, prime accused in the case, in March.
The counsel alleged that the investigation officers concerned had intentionally misled the case investigation and distorted the facts. Besides, there was no truth in the statement of the police that there were no eyewitnesses to the incident. In fact, the police have failed to question or interrogate those persons who were suspected by the victim’s parents, he noted and sought a court monitored SIT probe into the case.

During the course of hearing, the bench expressed doubts on the writings on the victim’s body. How could the police claim that the inmates of the hostel where the victim was murdered had no information about the incident, the bench questioned. The bench posted the matter to Tuesday to hear the counsel of the Home Department of AP.
