ELURU: Andhra Pradesh State Kapu Welfare and Development Corporation Chairman Chalamalasetty Ramanujaya on Tuesday alleged that YSRC chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy was playing caste politics. He questioned Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham for his ‘Chalo Amaravati Padayatra’ when the tdp government already initiated measures to include Kapus in the BC list as promised in its election manifesto.

Addressing the media at the Zilla Parishad guest house here on Tuesday, he said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu established a corporation for the economic development of Kapus. About 80,000 Kapus were provided loans at subsidy last year for setting up business units. This year about 64,000 will get loans. He pointed out that the government had sanctioned `10 lakh each through Kapu Corporation to 400 Kapu youths for higher studies abroad. A plan has been prepared to construct Kapu buildings in six districts in the State at a cost of `5 crore each on a two-acre site.

The Kapu Corporation Chairman said that the Chief Minister is striving for the economic development of Kapu community. All Kapus are supporting the Telugu Desam Party government. Seeing the popularity of Naidu among the Kapu community, the opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy started caste-politics for mileage, he said. “Jagan dreamt of coming to power in the State. However, Naidu has given priority to the Kapu community. Seeing this, Jagan in a vexation that he won’t be elected in the next elections, is trying to cause a rift between the government and Kapu community,” he said.

He also alleged that Jagan was provoking Kapu leader Mudragada. “The government has prepared a plan to provide BC reservation to the Kapu community, then why Mudragada is taking out padayatra?” he asked.“We are already educating the Kapu youth stating that they will get BC reservation soon. Jagan should stop playing his caste politics. Otherwise, Kapus will teach a lesson to Jagan in the next elections, he said.

Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao, AP Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman Pali Prasad, All India Kapu Samakhya State vice-president K Lakshmipati, Krishna district Kapus Association president Adapa Malavika and others were present at the press conference.
