KURNOOL: Several ministers from TDP as well as from YSR Congress have pitched their tents at Nandyal to chalk out a strategy for winning the by-poll. With the Election Commission issuing notification that the Nandyal by-election would be held on August 23, both the TDP and the YSR Congress are trying to win the by-poll by hook or crook.
Interestingly, political analysts drew parallels between the ruling parties in Telugu states. In Telangana, the ruling party never lost a seat after 2014 elections, starting from Medak by-poll to recent MLC elections. But in AP, the TDP never entered the fray after 2014 general elections. Even Nara Lokesh gained backdoor entry into State Cabinet.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, taking the by-election as a prestigious issue has deployed dozen ministers at Nandyal. Recently, the Chief Minister also announced MLC berth to former Minister N M D Farooq, so as to ensure the support of minorities. He frequently visits Nandyal to shower promises on the people. He also took part in Iftar on June 21.
Both the TDP and YSRC are trying hard to win people’s mandate. The result of this election would set the trend for the 2019 general elections. This is the reason why CM N Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy have taken the contest prestigiously.
TDP district president Somisetty Venkateswarlu said that their party candidate Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy is going to win with absolute majority. The voters of Nandyal are content with the development works initiated by the TDP government, he said.
YSR Congress district convener Gowru Venkata Reddy said, “Due to fear of losing the by-poll, the CM has deployed Ministers at Nandyal. Victory of our party candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy is certain.”
