Armed Reserve constable shoots himself in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh

He was immediately rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where he was declared brought dead.

KADAPA: A  28-year-old  Armed Reserve constable, P Venkata Kiran, who was on sentry duty at the District Police Headquarters in Kadapa, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with service revolver in early hours of Saturday. Following a gunshot sound at around 1 am, other policemen at the police headquarters rushed to the spot and found Kiran in a pool of blood near the main gate of the building.

He was immediately rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where he was declared brought dead. Prima facie, it appeared that he shot himself in the chest. “We are still investigating if it was a misfire or suicide,” said One Town CI Satyanarayana.

The constable was a native of Vanduta village in Bestavaripeta mandal of  Prakasam district. He joined the police department in 2009.  He is survived by his wife Aruna and two sons.

According to Kiran’s mother Padmavathamma, he spoke to her on phone before going to the police quarters. “We discussed my pilgrimage plan to Kasi on April 11. He said he could not accompany me as he had already taken 15 days leave recently due to jaundice.

He asked me to take his wife and children. Just after four hours, I was told he was dead,” Padmavathamma said with tears choking her voice. Kiran’s father P Venkateswarlu was waiting for the body of his son at the hospital and was unable to speak. Meanwhile, Kadapa One Town Police registered a case of suspicious death. Kiran’s wife Aruna was inconsolable.  

The members of the family said there were no family disputes or any other reason for Kiran to take the extreme step.
