VISAKHAPATNAM: The official website of Andhra University was hacked reportedly by a Pakistani hacker on Tuesday. However, within hours, the AU authorities sorted out the problem.

The AU authorities said the website will be completely restored by Wednesday morning. According to sources, the website was hacked by Pakistani hacker Muhammad Bilal.

When users logged onto the varsity’s website www.andhrauniversity.edu.in on Tuesday, they were shocked to see a black and green page, displaying slogans such as ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and ‘Free Kashmir’.

This is not the first time the AU website has come under cyber attack. It was hacked at least 3-4 times in the last few years. AU sources said that Pakistan-based hackers attacked the website in the past also.

When contacted, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao said, “Soon after finding that the website was hacked, we have taken steps for rectifying the problem with the help of cyber experts.”

“Such incidents happened last year and two years back also. Though we have been protecting the site with firewall, it seems, the hackers are trying new technologies,” he added.

The AU officials have registered a complaint with the Cyber Crime Branch.Talking to the Express, Cyber Crime Inspector Gopinath said, “We have received a complaint from Andhra University regarding the hacking. We suspect that the website was hacked during wee hours of Tuesday. We already issued a letter, requesting IP address. Though the server shows it’s from Germany, it may be a proxy address. Investigation is on”.
