VISAKHAPATNAM: About 62 pass percentage was recorded in the Intermediate first year examinations, which is 2 per cent less than previous year. Yet again girls performed better than boys, recording 67 per cent pass. It was Krishna district again which secured top place with a pass percentage of 75, while Kadapa came last with 48 per cent pass.

HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao released the results here on Friday. Announcing the results, the minister said that out of 4,78,621 candidates who appeared for the examination, about 2,95,891 passed. As many as 24,163 students secured 10 out of 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), while 77,648 students secured 9 to 10 CGPA and another 60,297 secured 8 to 9 CGPA. Giving gender wise break up, 67 per cent of girls (1,57,552 out of 2,36,918) passed in the examination, while the boys pass percentage was just 57 (1,38,339 out of 2,41,703).

Kadapa and Srikakulam were at the bottom with the lowest pass percentage of 48 and 53 respectively. Among the districts which achieved the highest pass percentage among government junior colleges, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and West Godavari topped with 64, 52 and 48 respectively, while districts which achieved the lowest pass percentage among government junior colleges were Visakhapatnam, Anantapur and Kadapa with 30, 33 and 38 percentages respectively.

According to the figures released by the Intermediate Education Board, in 2016, the pass percentage in the state was 68. Last year it came down to 64 per cent. Despite official claim on measures for quality education and increase pass percentage, this year saw another two per cent drop, recording 62 per cent.
