Internal squabbles denting image of sports body, says Andhra Pradesh Kabaddi Welfare Association Chief

VIJAYAWADA:  In response to allegations against State Kabaddi Welfare Association and its secretary V Veera Lankaiah, SAAP Chairman P Ankamma Chowdary said necessary action would be taken to resolve internal bickerings in sports associations.  “Internal bickerings are denting the image of the sports body. A couple of amendments were suggested in the new sports policy to bring an end to internal bickerings in the associations. We have to honour our coaches and encourage players to become champions,” he said.

Addressing the media at Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP’s) office here on Friday, Ankamma Chowdary said the body would soon come up with a proposal to reintroduce the Chief Minister’s Cup, which was once a popular sporting event in the State. In a board meeting, SAAP members said the event would be categorised for students of three age groups: high school (under 15 years), Intermediate (under 17 years) and university. 

“The board has also decided to introduce a proposal for offering jobs to the players. Those players who prove their mettle will get jobs in police, forest, fire and physical education departments after a high-quality training,” he said.

The board has also proposed to spread concept of inter-club competitions in all districts and promote  SAAP leagues in the weekends. “We are looking forward to construct two multi-purpose stadiums at Veterinary Campus College in Gannavaram and Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University in Guntur district,” the chairman added.
