Jagan attack case: Attacker in police custody for a week, SIT records statement of restaurant owner

Earlier, the SIT sought one-week police custody of the accused to extract details related to the case before a local court here, which allowed the same.

VISAKHAPATNAM: JANEPALLI Srinivasa Rao, prime accused in the Jagan attack case, was again taken into police custody from the Arilova Central Prison by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case, on Saturday evening. He will be in the police custody until November 2. Earlier, the SIT sought one-week police custody of the accused to extract details related to the case before a local court here, which allowed the same.

“During the period, we hope to extract all facts about the incident, including involvement of other people, if any, and criminal motive behind the attack,” a police official told Express. Meanwhile, SIT in-charge and North DCP Nageswara Rao, along with other officials, recorded the statement of T Harshavardhan Prasad, owner of the ‘Fusion Foods’ restaurant situated inside the Visakhapatnam Airport. On the other hand, a special police team, which went to Thaane Lanka in Mummidivaram mandal, the native place of Srinivasa Rao, collected details of his family background, his behaviour and other details.

Local police officials helped them in their investigation. Meanwhile, on the release of letter claimed to have been found in the pocket of the accused, the YSR Congress sought to know as to how a person carried a 11-page folded letter without a single crease or sign of damage. “Was the letter tampered with, in order to push a particular narrative?”
