VIJAYAWADA: The State government is gearing up to realise the dream of poor people in Guntur and NTR districts to have their own house by providing them free house sites in the capital region of Amaravati under the Navaratnalu - Pedalandariki Illu’ scheme. A total of 50,004 poor people will be allotted house sites in an extent of 1,402.58 acres in Amaravati. 

Taking stock of the progress of house site preparation, TIDCO houses and other development programmes with senior officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department and APCRDA on Thursday, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed them to initiate immediate measures to develop basic infrastructure in the layouts.

The officials informed him that in 1,402.58 acres earmarked for the house site allotment in Amaravati, 21 layouts will be developed and of which 10 layouts will be for beneficiaries of Guntur and 11 for the poor people of NTR district. Jungle clearance and land levelling works for the new layouts have been completed and at present works pertaining to 180 km of internal roads are under progress. The extension buildings of the High Court are also nearing completion. The buildings in 76,300 sq feet, will house 14 court halls and other judicial infrastructure, they explained. 

Under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain (CITIIS) programme, the officials said the works have been taken up in 12 urban areas in the State. With regard to TIDCO houses, out of 1.5 lakh houses under phase I, 1.39 lakh houses have been completed and at 30 places, 51,564 houses have been handed over to beneficiaries so far. All TIDCO houses will be handed over to beneficiaries by June. 

In the second phase, 1,12,092 houses will be handed over to beneficiaries from September to December. Arrangements are being made for the distribution of 8,192 TIDCO houses in Gudivada in the first week of June, they explained. Jagan directed the officials to pay special attention to cleanliness of beaches in Visakhapatnam, which will help promote beach tourism.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Audimulapu Suresh, Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy, Special Chief Secretary (Municipal Administration) Y Srilakshmi, TIDCO MD Ch Sridhar, APCRDA Commissioner Vivek Yadav, Swachh Andhra Corporation MD P Basanth Kumar, Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar, Resurvey Project Special Officer Subba Rao, MEPMA MD Vijayalakshmi and other officials were present.
