

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: A tormenting heatwave turned Godavari districts into a hot cauldron on Tuesday, pushing the mercury to an unbearable high of 46 degree Celsius at Rajahmundry, Nidadavolu, Kovvur, Narasapuram, Tad-epalligudem, Amalapuram, Bhimavaram, Mandapet and Palakol.
According to East Godavari district collectorate, heat wave is set to worsen from Wednesday. Searing heatwave gripped Godavari districts as temperatures crossed 45 degree Celsius in many parts of the region. Rajamahendravaram has logged in the highest maximum temperature of 46.3 degree Celsius so far this May, followed by Dowleswaram 46.3 degree celsius, 45.7 at Polavaram in Eluru district, 45.7 in Chityala of East Godavari, 45.5 in Karapa and Samalkot of Kakinada district.
Main road fort gate to deluxe centre in Rajamahendravaram city wore a deserted look. Residens shared that stepping out of their house is challenging owing to scorching heat and dry winds. “Working in daytime has become very tough. It feels we are boiling on the streets,” said Atluri Ramarao, a transport agent.With summer heat leaving the city parched and mercury levels rising to a new high passing day, cool drinks and lassi come to the rescue of thirsty.
