TIRUMALA: In a decisive move to uphold transparency, and protect the sanctity of temple administration, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board has unanimously resolved to initiate a fresh criminal investigation into the alleged financial misconduct linked to the Parakamani theft case.
During the emergency board meeting held on Tuesday, the TTD reaffirmed its statutory powers of general superintendence, emphasising its duty to safeguard public interest, ensure pilgrim welfare, and maintain the purity of temple rituals and finances.
Citing its constitutional mandate under Article 25, and its obligations under Vaikhanasa Agama traditions, the TTD stressed that every donation made by devotees belongs solely to the deity, and must be protected with utmost integrity.
The resolution comes in the wake of a controversial case, involving the theft of $900 by a Parakamani staff member, who later donated immovable property worth Rs 14.5 crore to the TTD.
The TTD expressed concern over the disproportionate nature of donation, and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the Lok Adalat settlement dated September 9, 2023.
The matter is currently sub judice before the High Court of Andhra Pradesh in multiple writ petitions, including WP No 1294 of 2025.
‘New probe to expose any concealed wrongdoing’
The TTD noted that the High Court had directed the Additional Director General of CID to conduct an inquiry, and submit a report in a sealed cover.
Meanwhile, the sudden and suspicious death of the former Assistant Vigilance and Security Officer involved in the Lok Adalat settlement has further intensified public scrutiny.
Describing the Lok Adalat settlement as potentially the tip of the iceberg, the TTD board meeting resolved to take immediate steps to set aside the settlement, and file a fresh criminal complaint to uncover deeper layers of alleged theft, misappropriation, and abuse of trusteeship. The new inquiry aims to expose any concealed wrongdoing, and ensure that past misconduct is not buried under procedural limitations.
This action, the TTD clarified, is being taken purely on administrative grounds, and in the larger public interest to preserve the faith of devotees, uphold religious sentiments, and maintain the decorum of sacred institutions. The TTD EO and other officials have been directed to cooperate fully, and furnish all necessary informatio.
