VISAKHAPATNAM: To enhance road safety and reduce accidents, the Visakhapatnam Traffic Police have enforced strict traffic regulations across the city.
As part of this initiative, a special focus is being placed on curbing speeding and reckless driving. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K Praveen Kumar announced that fines will be imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act for various violations.
He explained that driving at high speed falls under Section 183 MV Act, triple riding under Section 194(C) MV Act, riding without a helmet under Section 194(D) MV Act, pillion riding without a helmet under Section 194(C) MV Act, and wrong-way driving under Section 184 MV Act. For these offenses, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed, and details will be forwarded to the RTO for possible cancellation of the driving license, he added.
He highlighted that speed limit boards were arranged across the city.
Later, ADCP urged the public to adhere to the maximum speed limits fixed for different roads in the city from Marripalem to Kurmannapalem (NH-16) - 50 kmph. From Kurmannapalem to Kommadi (NH-16) - 40 kmph. From Kommadi to Anandapuram (NH-16) - 50 kmph. From Rajapulova to Pinagadi via Pendurthi (NH-16 Bypass) - 70 kmph. From Mopada RK Township to Geddapeta bus stop (NH-26) - 60 kmph.
From Fishing Harbour to Bheemili (Beach Road) - 40 kmph. From Pendurthi to Baji Junction (BRTS Road) - 50 kmph. From Hanumanthavaka to Adivivaram (BRTS Road) - 50 kmph. From Adivivaram to Vepagunta (BRTS Road)- 40 kmph. From Convent Junction to Sheela Nagar (Port Road) - 50 kmph and other municipal roads - 40 kmph K Praveen Kumar has announced that these limits are designed to check the mishaps and safeguard the lives of commuters and others.
Special monitoring teams equipped with speed detection devices are already in place to identify violators, he added.
He stated that drunk-and-drive testing is being conducted across the city, and fines are being imposed on auto rickshaws for overloading passengers. He stated that special drives are carried out every day from 9 pm to 12 am.
In particular, on Saturdays and Sundays, special drives are conducted round the clock, ADCP added.
He appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules diligently, wear helmets and seat belts, and avoid rash driving.
