VISAKHAPATNAM: The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has concluded the current financial year with record-breaking operational and financial achievements, establishing itself as the fifth highest revenue-earning and loading division in the Indian Railways network. The division reported a total revenue of Rs 11,598.07 crore, marking a 17 per cent increase over last year.
Incremental traffic growth of Rs 1,600 crore, the highest among Indian Railway divisions, drove Waltair Division’s performance during the financial year.
The division exceeded internal loading targets, achieving 85.1 million tonnes, a 17.25% rise, and handled over 150 million tonnes of goods. Freight earnings increased 18.75% year-on-year to Rs 10,422.56 crore. Infrastructure expansion supported the performance, with more than 380 km of double-line tracks commissioned and flyover projects worth Rs 1,200 crore completed.
Passenger traffic rose 6.6% to 33.42 million, generating the highest passenger revenue in 21 years at Rs 881.37 crore. To meet seasonal demand, the division operated over 300 special trains and added 400 coaches.
Officials regularised Visakhapatnam–Tirupati and Visakhapatnam–Charlapalli services in early April and plan to add services to Bengaluru, Kollam and Tirupati. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, authorities selected 15 stations for development and introduced modern amenities. The division deployed AI-powered “ASC ARJUN” at Vizag station, expanded digital advertising, and boosted non-fare revenue through branding, catering and parking initiatives.
