VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the unanimous passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in Parliament marks a defining moment that reflects the will of the people of the State and the strength of democracy.
The Chief Minister and his wife Nara Bhuvaneswari were accorded a rousing welcome by Amaravati farmers, women and local residents when they visited Uddandarayunipalem on Thursday to celebrate the passage of Amaravati bill in Parliament.
The atmosphere at Uddandarayunipalem was festive and emotionally charged, with people celebrating what they described as a hard-earned victory after years of sustained struggle, uncertainty and political challenges.
Naidu thanks Centre and all political parties that supported bill in both Houses of Parl
Earlier, Naidu, along with HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, Jana Sena leaders, and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar gave a call to NDA cadre and the general public to celebrate the passage of the Amaravati bill by lighting lamps in every nook and corner of the State. The appeal evoked a tremendous response from people with reports of grand celebrations in towns and villages across the State.
Addressing a massive gathering, Naidu said the day would be remembered in golden letters in the nation’s history. He described Amaravati capital city as a symbol of Telugu pride and self-respect. “Parliament has passed an irreversible law granting legal status to Amaravati, which is a tribute to the resolve of people of Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
Naidu hailed the 29,000 farmers who voluntarily pooled around 33,000 acres of land for the capital city, describing their sacrifice as unparalleled and eternal. He emphasised that the unity of farmers, agricultural workers, and citizens played a crucial role in securing legal status for Amaravati.
Recalling the past, Naidu said the State had gone through difficult times during 2019-24, when uncertainty clouded the future of the capital. Attempts were made to derail Capital Amaravati, but the resilience of farmers and women, who waged a prolonged struggle lasting over 1,600 days, ensured that the capital dream remained alive. The YSRCP had failed to attend the Assembly during the passage of resolution seeking legal status for capital Amaravati. It staged a walkout when the Amaravati bill was passed in Parliament, he said.
The YSRCP’s approach had only worsened despite recent developments, he said, dismissing former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s “Mavigan” proposal as unclear and ridiculous.
Terming YSRCP’s statements on Amaravati as irresponsible and misleading, he alleged that it had consistently attempted to undermine the capital city. Urging people to politically reject the YSRCP, he said such unethical political practices were unprecedented and asserted that a party opposing Amaravati and its development would not prosper in the State.
Naidu lauded the courage and determination of people of the capital region, noting that their struggle would remain a historic example of people’s power. He recalled that Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan had extended support to the farmers’ agitation, while Bhuvaneswari had expressed solidarity by donating her gold bangles for Amaravati cause.
Naidu said he campaigned and sought people’s support for Amaravati during the movement. He thanked the Union government and all political parties that supported the Amaravati bill in Parliament. He appreciated the role of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in ensuring the smooth passage of the bill in Parliament.
BJP State president PVN Madhav described the day as historic and said the legal status granted to Amaravati was the result of immense sacrifices made by farmers and the public. Unlike any other capital issue in the country, all political parties except the YSRCP came together in support of Amaravati.
