VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh is set to witness an intense heatwave over the next two days, with maximum temperatures likely to reach 42-43°C, according to the AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director Prakhar Jain.
He urged people to take adequate precautions to protect themselves from extreme heat conditions. In an official release on Thursday, the MD said severe heatwave conditions are expected in 54 mandals on Friday, while 16 mandals are likely to experience moderate heatwave conditions.
On Saturday, severe heatwaves may affect 41 mandals, and 21 mandals could witness heatwave conditions.
On Friday, severe heatwave conditions are likely in 13 mandals of Srikakulam district, 19 in Vizianagaram, 11 in Parvathipuram Manyam, two each in ASR, Vizag and Anakapalle districts, and three in Polavaram, along with two mandals each in Kakinada.
Meanwhile, moderate heatwave conditions are expected in select mandals of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Polavaram, Anakapalle, Kakinada, East Godavari, Eluru and NTR districts. Temperature data on Thursday indicated rising heat levels across AP.
Rajam in Vizianagaram district reported 40.6°C, while Makkuva in Manyam and Nindra in Chittoor recorded 40°C each. Several other locations, including Dharmajigudem (39.8°C), Renigunta (39.6°C), Poduru (39.6°C), and Kankipadu and Brahmanagudem (39.4°C), experienced high temperatures. Jain advised women, children and the elderly to remain cautious.
