ANANTAPUR : Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday launched a 100-day Water Security Action Plan and a dedicated mobile application at Yadiki in Tadipatri constituency, Anantapur district. The initiative, running until July 14, is designed to conserve water, recharge groundwater, and ensure sustainable irrigation across the State.
Addressing a public gathering under the Jaladhara - Water Security & Responsibility of Water Users Associations programme, Naidu declared water security as the government’s foremost priority. He outlined measures such as check dams, farm ponds, micro-irrigation, desilting of canals and tanks, and projects under NTR Jalasiri.
He noted that Andhra Pradesh has become the No. 1 state in micro-irrigation, with Rs 1,031 crore invested. Drip irrigation, he said, has transformed drought-prone Rayalaseema into a horticulture hub, while conservation efforts have raised groundwater levels by 1.92 metre statewide.
Naidu pointed to the Purvodaya scheme, which is expected to bring Rs 30,000 crore in Central assistance, alongside Rs 70,000 crore in investments. Projects like Handri-Neeva and Pattiseema have ensured irrigation even to tail-end lands, boosting agricultural productivity. He said the State requires 1,300 TMC of water annually, and this year alone, 74 TMC has been brought to Anantapur. Improved reservoir management will secure both Rabi and Kharif crops, while sustaining industrial and drinking water needs.
Government’s mission is to deliver accountable governance: Naidu
Reiterating the government’s stand, Naidu declared Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
He criticised attempts by the Opposition to ‘confuse people’ with alternative terms and the three-capital proposal, calling them politically motivated.
He pointed out that out of 50 parties in Parliament, 49 supported Amaravati, while only one opposed it.
Crowds at the event responded with ‘Jai Amaravati’ slogans and placards, celebrating the Parliamentary approval that granted legal status to the capital.
Former MLA JC Prabhakar Reddy attended, holding an Amaravati logo, symbolising public endorsement of the capital city.
In a move to ensure transparency, the Chief Minister presented the progress report of the Tadipatri constituency and reviewed departmental performance in front of the public. He praised efficient officials as ‘super achievers’ and urged government employees to work in partnership with citizens for development.
Naidu stressed that the government’s mission is to deliver efficient, accountable governance while safeguarding public assets, ensuring law and order, and promoting investments. He warned that those obstructing investments or creating fear among investors are harming the State’s future and should be rejected by the public.
Looking ahead, Naidu expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh would emerge as a leading state by 2047, supported by well-defined regional growth hubs - Visakhapatnam for North Andhra, Amaravati for the central region, and Tirupati for Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.
