VIZIANAGARAM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated the greenfield Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport to the nation, launching a Rs 17,900-crore multi-sectoral package that he declared would transform the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) into a premier economic hub of Asia.
Describing the airport and associated projects as a definitive game-changer for Andhra Pradesh, and a key national growth engine for a Viksit Bharat, the Prime Minister outlined an integrated roadmap linking aviation, port connectivity, and high-tech manufacturing across the State’s northern belt.
The mega-package pairs the Bhogapuram transit hub with major renewable energy and highway corridors, alongside the foundation stone laying for Andhra Pradesh’s first semiconductor assembly facility in Visakhapatnam.
Emphasising that modern infrastructure must translate directly into employment, he highlighted that integrating high-tech manufacturing with regional transport links will position North Andhra as a global investment magnet.
ASIP unit to boost chip ecosystem
He assured that the Centre would continue to support the sector as part of its efforts to strengthen domestic electronics manufacturing.
ASIP Managing Director and CEO Venkata Simhadri said the project will help develop semiconductor packaging and testing capabilities in India.
“Together with our partner APACT, we are establishing advanced assembly, packaging and testing capabilities in India, while driving skill development, supply chain localisation, and contributing to the growth of Andhra Pradesh’s semiconductor ecosystem,” he said.
Seong Dong Lee, President and CEO of APACT, noted that the partnership with ASIP combines Korean technology expertise with India’s engineering strength and manufacturing goals.
“This facility will become an important part of India’s Semiconductor Mission and the global semiconductor ecosystem, providing advanced packaging and testing solutions to customers globally,” he added.
The company also plans to collaborate with institutions, including IIT Tirupati and IIT Hyderabad, for research and skills.
