VIJAYAWADA: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday called upon the youth to play a key role in building a developed India by 2047, stressing that young political leaders should work for solving public problems rather than seeking positions.

Addressing the Viksit Bharat @ 2047 - Young Political Leaders Dialogue organised by the BJP Yuva Morcha in Vijayawada, Sawant said the country needed a new, people-centric political culture based on transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and technology.

Sawant said youngsters entering politics should first gain knowledge and experience through education, employment or entrepreneurship. Those choosing politics should develop themselves as policy-makers, grassroots organisers, technology users and social entrepreneurs. He said political leadership should be judged not by speeches delivered on platforms but by the change brought about on the ground.

He said initiatives such as MY Bharat, Skill India, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, apprenticeships, Startup India and the PM Internship Scheme were creating new opportunities for youngsters. Youth should become job creators rather than merely job seekers, he said, adding that emerging sectors like Artificial Intelligence would offer enormous opportunities.

He identified five key responsibilities for young leaders being accessible, accountable, inclusive, innovative and putting the nation first.
