VIJAYAWADA: With temperatures soaring across the State, the police department has announced special welfare measures for traffic personnel working under extreme heatwave on Friday.
Responding to the situation, Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta sanctioned nearly Rs 48 lakh for the welfare and protection of traffic personnel across the state.
The funds have been allocated from the police department budget, and officials have been instructed to release the amount immediately.
The DGP said the temperatures in several urban areas are ranging between 42-46 °C, forcing traffic police staff to spend long hours on roads amid scorching weather.
Under the initiative, traffic police staff will be provided with UV protection goggles, white caps, ORS packets, water bottles and face masks.
The equipment is aimed at protecting personnel from heat strokes, dehydration, and pollution while on duty.
A total of 3,192 traffic personnel, including constables, head constables and sub-inspectors working at traffic junctions, highways, bus stations and railway station areas, are expected to benefit from the scheme.
The DGP directed all police commissionerates and SPs to complete distribution of the materials without delay.
