VIJAYAWADA: As Andhra Pradesh continues to reel under intense summer heat, beer consumption has surged sharply across the State, indicating a major rise in demand during the ongoing hot spell.

Official sales data show that beer sales in April 2026 increased by 31.44 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. Sales rose from 22.73 lakh cases in April 2025 to 29.88 lakh cases in April 2026.

Similarly, during the first 22 days of May 2026, beer sales surged by 35.27 percent. Sales touched 22.21 lakh cases against 16.42 lakh cases recorded during the same period last year.

Officials and market observers attribute the spike largely to soaring temperatures and prolonged heatwave conditions.

Across several parts of India, rising temperatures have also led to increased demand for chilled beverages and beer during the summer season.

Industry analysts say consumers are increasingly preferring beer over hard liquor during extreme summer conditions, especially among urban youth and weekend consumers. Retail outlets and bars are also witnessing higher footfall during evenings as temperatures remain unusually high even after sunset.

Excise department sources expect the demand trend to continue if the current weather conditions persist through the remaining summer weeks.
