VIJAYAWADA: Setting a firm deadline to achieve 100% housing for the State’s underprivileged population by 2029, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, alongside Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, laid the foundation stone for 3 lakh houses across Andhra Pradesh under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 at Burripalem in Tenali Assembly segment of Guntur district on Sunday.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held under the State’s ‘Pedalaku Pattabhishekam’ (Crowning the Poor) programme, saw both leaders perform Bhoomi Puja alongside a beneficiary family, and hand over house site deeds.

Naidu stated that while the Centre initially sanctioned a standard quota of 75,000 houses, an explicit request led to the immediate sanction of 3 lakh units for Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu, Chouhan inspect pilot project of building 177 houses with Rs 14 crore

The Union Rural Development Minister assured that the Centre would sanction another 3 lakh houses as construction progresses, followed by an additional 3 lakh units next year—taking Andhra Pradesh’s total Central allocation to 9 lakh houses.

Highlighting technological innovation, Naidu and Chouhan inspected an ongoing pilot project at Burripalem, where 177 houses are being constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore using robotic 3D Concrete Printing Technology, executed jointly by the Union Rural Development Ministry, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, and the State government.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, credited by Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar for spearheading the 3D-printing model, revealed that the pilot includes 100 general houses and 77 houses specifically designed for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).

Demonstrations showed a home can be printed in just 10 days, with concrete formulations ensuring indoor temperatures remain at least 8 degrees Celsius lower than ambient weather. Naidu announced that following the pilot’s success, the State will build 5,000 houses using 3D printing technology. Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy stated that unit cost has been fixed at Rs 2.39 lakh in rural areas and Rs 2.50 lakh in urban sectors under PMAY 2.0. Pemmasani added that by converging housing grants with VB-G RAM G, Swachh Bharat Mission, and SHG bank loans, each beneficiary family will receive financial support of approximately Rs 2.30 lakh. He assured that stalled TIDCO housing projects are being restarted on a war footing for time-bound handover.

Escalating political accountability, Nadendla formally requested the Union Minister to launch a comprehensive Central investigation into alleged financial irregularities and site misallocations during the previous YSRCP regime. Naidu pointed out that 6 lakh houses were cancelled between 2019 and 2024, and plots were assigned on unusable terrain like lakes and hillocks, forcing nearly 4 lakh beneficiaries to surrender allotments.

Chouhan lauded Naidu’s leadership in transitioning the State into “Shining, Advanced, and Achieving Andhra.” Highlighting welfare convergence, he detailed how AP farmers receive Rs 20,000 as annual assistance through Rs 6,000 from the Centre’s PM-KISAN scheme and Rs 14,000 from the State’s Annadata Sukhibhava programme.

BJP AP president PVN Madhav, MLC Alapati Rajendra Prasad and Guntur Collector S Saikanth Varma were present.
