NEW DELHI: A five percent quota will continue for admissions in the undergraduate courses at Delhi University for the Kashmiri migrants.
The panel members who look after the admission policy have recommended no change in the reservation as far as Kashmiri migrants are concerned, the report will be sent to the Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi for his approval.
“The Kashmiri migrants will continue to get up to 5 pc quota in admissions. However, these will be supernumerary seats and not affect the general and other category students,” a top official in the committee said.
In a letter to the university, the Human Resource Development ministry had asked to ensure “concession for the wards of Kashmiri migrants for admission during academic session 2016-17”.
The reservation to Kashmiri migrants has been part of DU’s admission policy for years. Candidates are required to submit the certificate of registration as a Kashmiri migrant, proof of property in Kashmir and proof of current residence in Delhi along with their applications, apart from other regular documents, the official said further.
Admission through this quota does not take place with the general admissions process, since this quota is ‘over and above’ other reserved categories of the university.
