NEW DELHI: A Nigerian national sustained serious injuries after she allegedly jumped from the balcony of a building in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area during a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raid, officials said on Tuesday.
The woman was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is stated to be stable, an officer said.
The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected narcotics-related activities. During the operation, the NCB apprehended two Nigerian nationals from the premises. Suspected narcotic substances were also recovered from the spot. Officials said the nature and quantity of the recovered contraband are being verified and further investigation is underway.
The incident comes nearly two months after a similar case in north Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, where an African woman died after allegedly jumping from the fourth-floor balcony of a flat during an Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) raid.
In that June operation, police had arrested Romeo alias Sky while probing an NDPS case linked to accused Frank Dashmond. Around 30 grams of MDMA and 1.5 grams of heroin were allegedly recovered from his residence. Police said the woman, identified as Stella Pius, jumped from the balcony after officers entered her flat. She was taken to Burari Government Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
During the search, police recovered a key from another African national, Martin Aaron, which was used to open a locked room in Stella’s flat. Investigators found chemicals, beakers, pipes, sacks and weighing machines inside the room and suspected it was being used as a drug manufacturing or raw material storage facility. Officials said the investigation into the Mehrauli case is continuing and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
