BANGALORE: In the backdrop of growing terror menace and recent Mumbai attacks, Karnataka is shoring up its security in the State.

“The city is in immediate need of an internal security department, which would be established soon,” said Home Minister Dr VS Acharya on Wednesday, at the Home Guards Annual Day celebration here. After the terror attacks in Mumbai, the city is in need of higher security measures and with the support of the Central government, we would try to strengthen our security forces in the State, added he.

“Pointing that only after the Mumbai terror attacks, it was revealed that the coastal lines are the most sensitive areas and the government has taken enough measures to safeguard the State’s coastline,” he pointed out. The Home Minister also assured to increase the salaries of the officers of the Home Guards. Appreciating the good work of the Home Guards, he said, “The Home Guards service has to be applauded and the government would try to involve them in the security apparatus of the State.”
