BANGALORE: Nearly 20 days after the collapse of a multi-storeyed apartment under construction belonging to the Prestige Group at Whitefield, police found the corpse of the ‘missing person’ in the debris on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Munna Katua (23), a native of Kendrapada district in Orissa.

The corpse was in a highly mutilated and decomposed state, police said.

The 15th floor of the C tower in the Prestige Shantiniketan complex had collapsed on October 23 with consequent collapse of the lower floors.

The Kadugodi and Mahadevapura police shifted the body to Bowring Hospital for postmortem.

Earlier, the police had stated that Munna Katua, who was working in the ground floor with four others, was ‘missing’ from the spot. They had also stated that enquiries were being made regarding his whereabouts at various work sites in the city. A team of officers had also been sent to Orissa to find out whether he had returned home.

But on Wednesday, a decomposed body was found after a prolonged effort to clear the debris by fire personnel and private team of experts. Besides experts from Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai, specialised equipment from Salem and other places were said to have been deployed for clearing the debris. Now a detailed verification of the workers working on the spot has been taken up by the police.

A case of unnatural death.
