BANGALORE: To strengthen the police force and deploy them to new wings, the State Home Department proposes to recruit 9,431 constables and sub-inspectors, said Home Minister Dr V S Acharya.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Dr Acharya said that a notification in this regard would be issued within a month. Of these, 3031 would be Karnataka State Reserved Police (KSRP) personnel, 6000 would be constables -1800 for the city and district armed reserve units and 4200 for the civil wing. Besides, 2854 constables would be recruited for the KSRP.

As many as 577 sub-inspectors, including 25 sub-inspectors for the intelligence wing and 177 for the KSRP would be recruited.

‘Agricultural land laws may be changed’ Dr Acharya indicated that the State government proposed to liberalise laws related to use of agriculture land.

Referring to the fall in stamp and registration fee collection during the last few months, he hoped that the revenue would improve once the steps proposed are taken. “In the urban areas, zonal restrictions are already there. But in rural areas, if the gram panchayats are empowered to give permission for conversion of land, say for setting up an industry or so, it will be desirable,” Dr Acharya opined. Replying to a query, Dr Acharya assured that all cooperation would be extended for carrying out a joint survey of the mining area in Bellary district.
