UJIRE: Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday promised to send a fresh proposal on including the Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the constitution.

“The government is ready to declare Tulu language as the other language of the state,” the Chief Minister said after he inaugurated the second Vishwa Tulu Sammelan by filling the traditional wooden casket to its brim with freshly harvested paddy at Tulunadu Siri Dompa, venue of the conference.

The CM said that the government has an open mind about introducing Tulu along with English in primary and high schools, and added that if the language suffered, the culture suffered too.

Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari and Vishwa Tulu Sammelan Chairman D Veerendra Heggade quoted UNESCO’s reports which said that Tulu language was at the threshold of extinction.
