BANGALORE: Minister for Social Welfare D Sudhakar, has taken a week’s time to resign from the state cabinet.

Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, told reporters in the city on Tuesday that he had agreed to give the Minister a week’s time to decide on resigning from the minister’s post.

Pressure to resign had mounted on Sudhakar from different quarters, after he was chargesheeted by the CBI in a bank cheating case.

Sudhakar is the second accused in the chargesheet. He is accused of raising a loan to the tune of Rs 7 crore from a nationalised bank in the name of existing and nonexistent employees of two different firms with which he has been associated.

Sudhakar had met the Chief Minister on Monday night and explained to him about the legalities involved in the case. “Considering his explanation, I have given him a week’s time,” the CM said. In the meanwhile, the Special Court on CBI cases has taken cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the central investigating agency and posted the case for hearing on October 3. SHETTY GETS 6 WEEKS TO RESPOND

Former Muzarai Minister S N Krishnaiah Shetty, has requested the Lokayukta to give him six weeks time to reply to the notice issued by the latter with regard to the KHB scam. The Lokayukta had taken up investigation into the alleged multi-crore land purchase scam in the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB), involving Shetty, based on complaints in this regard.

The Lokayukta had issued notices to Shetty and KHB Commissioner M B Dyaberi in the case. Shetty on Tuesday went to the Lokayukta office and sought six weeks time from an officer as Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde was not in the office.

“Shetty was granted time by the officer and I am on an official tour. Once I return to office, I will look into the matter,” Hegde said.
