GULBARGA: The arrest of a journalist of a private channel in Bidar, on charges of instigating Karnataka Nava Narmana Sene activists to blacken the face of Border Area Development Authority chairman Chandrakant Bellad at Hebsikot Guest House on December 28, sparked protests in Bidar and Gulbarga districts on Wednesday.
Bidar police arrested the reporter of a private TV channel on Tuesday midnight on charges of instigating the Sene activists. Police filed 10 different cases against the journalist and brought him to court in handcuffs.
The journalists of Bidar met Superintendent of Police Satishkumar and alleged that the scribe was handcuffed. The SP expressed regret over the incident but said that it was found during investigation that the TV journalist had instigated the activists.
In Gulbarga, journalists led by Karnataka Union of Working Journalists Association district unit president Baburao Yadrami and secretary Siddanna Malgar met NorthEast Range Inspector General of Police Gagandeep and submitted a memorandum, stating that the journalist was arrested on false charges in order to instil fear among journalists.
