BANGALORE: Reputed theatre personality Master Hiranniah on Saturday said that Tamil has a history of only 1,400 years whereas Kannada has a history of 2,000 years.
“Thanks to the politicians of the state we are still fighting for classical language status for Kannada and cases have been filed against granting classical language status to Kannada in the Madras High Court,” he said.
After inaugurating ‘Total Kannada’, a store that sells only things that are related
to Kannada language, Hiranniah said: “The people in the state, particularly in Bangalore, are not interested in learning Kannada as they can live without learning Kannada.
Many great scholars like Mastivenkatesh Iyengar and Devudu composed brilliant literary works in Kannada though their mother tongue was not Kannada. However, we Kannadigas are ignoring our language.’’
