CHIKMAGALUR: Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said that Rs 50 crore would be released as the first instalment for the overall development of Kemmanagundi, a picturesque hill station near Chikmagalur.

The formalities for the commencement of works will be completed within two months.

At the Sri Krishna Rajendra Giridham in Kemmanagundi, he said that Chikmagalur district has ample scope for development in the tourism sector. Before giving the final touch to the improvement of the famous summer resort, a meeting of the top officials of the horticulture, forest and public works departments was convened. "Roads and stay houses for tourists need to be paid attention urgently. Apart from the forest guest house and PWD guest houses, other stay houses are not fit for use. Hence, fifty additional rooms will have to be built," the CM pointed out.

He also mentioned that Kallattagiri falls is another place of tourist importance.

Yeddyurappa informed that the proposal for the development of Amritmahal Kaval has been given a green signal in the budget and immediate attention will be paid to the improvisation of Amritmahal grassland cattle species breeding centre, situated on 100 acres near Ajjampur. "Also, steps will be taken to acquire land around the tomb of Akka Nagamma, the elder sister of 12th century social reformer Basavanna, near Tarikere. A sum of Rs 75 lakh has been released for the purpose," he informed.
