CHAMARAJANAGAR: Principal Distirct and Sessions Court has acquitted Muthulakshmi, wife of slain forest brigand Veerappan, in connection with Ramapura Police Station attack and SI Shakeel Ahmed and SP Harikrishna murder cases.

Principal District and Sessions Judge A C Vidyadhar pronounced the verdict hearing the case and acquitted Muthulakshmi and four others, citing lack of evidence.

The prosecutor had filed a chargesheet against the accused, charging them of being involved in the Ramapura Police Station attack, where five police personnel were killed by Veerappan’s gang members on May 19, 1992, and the murders of SI Shakeel Ahmed and SP Harikrishna at Meenyam forest area on August 14, 1992.

The others acquitted in the cases are Savariappan, Tailor Seena, Basava and Late Ponnuswamy.

Muthulakshmi was arrested in Mettur, Tamil Nadu, by Chamarajanagar Police in November, 2008, after the death of Veerappan.

Muthulakshmi will still be in jail as a couple of more cases are pending against her. She is accused in Palar bomb blast case.
