Ancient words of wisdom

BANGALORE: Blending spirituality and management, Radhakrishnan Pillai, who has been instrumental in reaching the knowledge of Arthashastra to millions of people, is back with a new book aimed at recreating the age-old formula of management success for the modern corporate India.

His book, Corporate Chanakya: Successful Management The Chanakya Way, which was released at Reliance TimeOut recently, Pillai gives the businessmen ancient lessons of the state from Kautilya to manage and improve their lives.

Taking Chanakya, the third century BC strategist as his ideal, Pillai has managed to write a modern version of Kautilya’s Arthashastra by dividing the book into sections of leadership, management and training corporate Chanakya.

The book is Pillai’s own interpretation of the famous ancient texts of Kautilya’s Arthashastra. The texts were written in the third century BC, and stands as one of the oldest books on management in the world.

Pillai, who is an expert on Chanakya’s teachings and holds a strong educational background in management, wanted to share these ideas by making them more accessible to general public.

“Business leaders of family enterprises can draw insightful wisdom from this book. I wanted to make these old texts available to everyone, because not many people get the opportunity to study 6,000 sutras of the book. It was important for me to simplify them and make them more understandable, by giving them my own interpretation,” says Pillai.

The book deals directly with a variety of practical topics like decision making, how to conduct effective meetings and how to gain power as a leader. It includes tips on various topics like - organising and conducting effective meetings, dealing with tricky situations, managing time, decision making and responsibilities and powers of a leader.

“It’s not only a book about management on a high level and doesn’t only delve on a level of Political Science and Philosophy. This is also about management on a lower level, like in your everyday life,” he adds.

Pillai encourages the readers to use this ancient knowledge and his interpretation to help manage and improve their private lives.
