MYSORE: Veerappan's wife Muthulakshmi was acquitted today in a case for lack of evidence. She was acquitted along with Pappathi, another accused in the Rangaswamy Vaddu case, in which six policemen were killed. They will be released from Bangalore Central Jail on Thursday.
Muthulakshmi arrested from her house in Mettur in Salem district, Tamil Nadu, in connection with five cases, was acquitted in four cases earlier.
She was also one of the accused in the Rangaswamy Vaddu case, where Veerappan and his associates gunned downed policemen near Saneshwara temple and had made away with arms and ammunitions.
Chamrajnagar District and Principal Sessions Judge AC Vidyadhar acquitted them for lack of evidence.
'Will focus on
daughters' studies'
Delighted over the Court acquitting her, Muthulakshmi swore on Goddess Chamundeshwari and reiterated that she has not committed any mistake.
"My husband might have committed mistakes. Why should I be targeted?" she asked. Brushing aside her ambitions to enter politics, Muthulakshmi said that she will continue to do social service and organise women for their empowerment. My priority is to focus on giving good education to both my daughters, she added.
