BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda announced his intention to establish an Arebhashe academy for the conservation of the historic Dakshina Kannada dialect, here at a convention of Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada Samaja.
While addressing an enthusiastic crowd, Gowda promised to expedite the process of establishing an exclusive Arebhashe academy. “I belong to this community and I want to give something back to it. I will speak to the officials concerned regarding setting up of the academy,” he told the audience. Gowda inaugurated the yearly convention of the Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada Samaja.
Hailing from Sullia district, Gowda belongs to the Devaragunda community. “It is the overwhelming support I received from the community that helped me reach this stage,” he said. He stressed on the growing political presence of the community in the state, making references to Energy, Food and Civil Supplies minister Shobha Karandlaje, State Legislative Assembly speaker K G Bopaiah and himself.
“I became CM in turbulent times. I am now in a position to cleanse the corrupt image attached to politicians,” he said.
