UDUPI: Thousands of devotees, including women and children, irrespective of their class and creed, on Monday, got their bodies stamped of shanka (conch) and chakra (wheel), as part of the tapta mudra dharana ritual, at Srikrishna Temple here.

Tapta mudra dharana is a tradition among the Madhwas to get their body stamped, by burning copper Mudras, put in the Sudarshana Homa, marking Shanka and Chakra, by the hands of Madhwa Swamijis.

As per tradition, men get the stamp of Shanka on their left arm, left chest and the stomach. Stamp of Chakra on their right arm and right chest a total of five stamps. Women get two stamps on their arms.

Paryaya Shiroor Mutt pontiff Laxmivara Theertha conducted the stamping in front of Lord Mukhyaprana of Bhojana Shaala in Srikrishna Temple here, from 8 am to 7 pm.
