Lalrokhuma Pachuau took charge as the interim Director General & Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) of the state on Thursday. He is the 37th DG & IGP of the state.
He will be concurrently holding the post besides heading the premier investigating agency of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Outgoing ad-hoc DG & IGP A R Infant, who retired on Thursday, formally handed over the baton to Pachuau at a ceremony held at the police chief’s office here.
Pachuau said that it was like home-coming for him after serving as DGP of Mizoram for four-and-half years. “It is a responsible task to head the state police force, which is more modernised and sophisticated when compared to other states. This is one of the best police forces in the country. I require little time to know the functioning of the department here as it has changed for the better in recent years.”
He added that he will take all officers into confidence to achieve works. “I am confident that we are ready to deal with any challenge.”
Pachuau said that redressing traffic-related grievances, ensuring law and order and preventing crimes would be his top priority.
According to him, no special training was required to tackle terror related activities in the state as information on such activities was constantly being shared with the Intelligence Bureau. “However, if there is a need for such training, we would discuss about it. Even to tackle naxal menace in the state, there is ANF. After studying about its functioning, further steps will be taken to strengthen the ANF,” he added.
Earlier, Infant said that during his tenure as the police chief in the last two months he had realised that officers were really working hard.
“The last six months was tumultuous. When we want justice, there is no other alternative other than going to courts. Justice comes slowly but surely,” he said.
