Even as the students await the CET 2012 results, medical aspirants can be rest assured of government quota medical seats.
The Medical Council of India has permitted the 10 government medical colleges in the state to retain the medical seats’ for the 2012-13 academic year.
Director to Directorate of Medical Education Dr G S Venkatesh said that 1,250 medical seats will be available for students under the government quota of which 15 per cent will be allotted for All India Category.
“The MCI has given us a nod to go ahead with the number of medical seats same as that of last year. While Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Karnataka Institute Medical Sciences, Hubli will have an intake of 150 seats, Bangalore Medical College (BMC) will have an intake of 250 seats,” Dr Venkatesh said.
He further added, “However, the MCI has asked for some clarification from Bangalore Medical College regarding the infrastructure .” The six new colleges in Raichur, Shimoga, Bidar, Bellary, Mandya and Hassan have also received permanent recognition followed by the stringent inspection of MCI for five consecutive years. As many as 1,079 medical seats were available to meritorious students in the CET admission round conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority for 2011 academic year.
Dr Venkatesh said that apart from the government medical seats, students will also be eligible for the medical seats in private institutions under the government quota. “Such medical seats in the private institutions will be available to the students at a slightly higher fee than the government seats,” he pointed.
However, students will have to wait for the state government and the private college managements arrive at a consensual agreement regarding the fee structure and the seat sharing ratio for medical, engineering and ayurveda courses.
