All India Radio Dharwad station programme executive C U Bellakki has said that the AIR will record all the folk songs related to Kittur history and Kittur Rani Channamma.
After inaugurating a seminar on ‘History of Kittur’ at Kittur on Wednesday, he said that the AIR has already formed 600 groups consisting of more than 3,500 folk singers for the purpose. These singers will tour the entire Kittur region, collect the folk songs and document them, he added.
Bellakki said the research conducted by the scholars on Kittur history should reach common people. These research works should not become a property of academicians, but should reach the common people of the state, he said.
Prof H I Thimmapur, principal of Anjuman College, Belgaum, said that the government should take initiative to exhibit photos of Kittur Rani Channamma in all the primary schools across the state. Kannada scholar Dr V S Mali said that Rani Channamma University should start a research centre at Kittur for conducting studies on Kittur history. Srinivas Padigar, head of the Department of History in Karnataka University, said that the history of Kittur should be properly documented and all the monuments located at Degaon, Gokulwadi, Halasi, Bailhongal and Nandgad should be protected.
