Governor for revision of cow slaughter bill

Governor H R Bhardwaj has returned a Bill seeking a ban on cow slaughter to the government, suggesting that it withdraw the he-buffalo and she-buffalo from the Bill sent for his approval, announced Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Belamagi.

Belamagi told reporters here on Wednesday that the Cabinet has already discussed the matter and in all probability the Bill will be re-sent to the Governor with a slight modification fixing the age of killing the he and she-buffalo.

Belamagi said that he has noticed instances of sending cattle to butcheries in Gulbarga and other places. Instructions have been given to SPs of all districts to keep a constant vigil on such incidents and take action.

The minister said that Rs 15 crore has been released under the Chief Minister’s special package to Shahabad town of Gulbarga district. The town has already received Rs 5 crore earlier under the CM’s special package and works on drinking water, roads and drains were under progress, he said.

The state has sanctioned construction works of 14 bridge-cum-barrages across the Bennetora river at an estimated cost of Rs 45 crore and four bridge-cum-barrages across the Gandori Nala river at an estimated `8 crore in Gulbarga,” he said.
