The condition of the 19-year-old girl who was brutally assaulted and molested by her friend in the heart of Davangere is stable and she is slowly recovering, Additional Superintendent of Police Ravinarayan told reporters on Monday.
The girl, a student of BCA at JH Patel College, was returning home after dance practice with her sister on Saturday night when she received a telephone call from her friend Pruthvi, a resident of Saraswathi Extension.
She left her sister behind and went to meet him near the Government Science College. Pruthvi, who was accompanied by his friend Abhijith, got into a heated argument with the girl and started assaulting her.
Some parts of her body were burnt with a lighter. She was hit with a boulder on her face and head and lost a few of her teeth.
When she fell unconscious, the two boys fled the scene.
Pruthvi was arrested by police on Sunday night and produced in court on Monday. Police are still on the lookout for Abhijit.
During a search, police found three teeth, a mobile phone, a lighter, the girl’s footwear and a single gold ear stud, Circle Inspector Chandrahas Lakshman Naik told reporters.
Meanwhile, the girl’s father said the timely arrival of passersby saved his daughter’s life. “I appeal to the police to take stringent action against the youth who tried to kill my daughter.” JH Patel College principal Prathiba strongly condemned the incident and said the government should severely punish those involved.
