Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had been directed to give possession to 8,813 allottees at Arkavathy Layout by March 2014. He was speaking at the inaugural function of a lottery system by the BDA to pick beneficiaries.
Stressing the need to curb horizontal growth of the city, Siddaramaiah said vertical growth of housing projects was the need of the hour. He said BDA had taken steps to provide at least 30,000 flats in 2013-14.
He said around 3,000 flats across 16 locations would be allotted this year. He added the city was already burdened with a lack of vision by planners, which gave a thrust to horizontal development. “This has created havoc and traffic is chaotic,” he said.
He also made a case for the development of satellite towns around Bangalore in order to take some pressure off the city. “During Janata Darshan, 25 per cent of all complaints are regarding housing-related issues,” he said.
BDA Commissioner Shyam Bhat said the Authority had recovered 190 acres of land after clearing encroachments and these would be used for housing schemes for economically weaker groups. The process of lottery would continue on Friday as well.
Cost of BDA Flats
BDA apartments consisting of one bedroom-hall-kitchen (BHK) costs `8.2 lakh for people applying under the OBC status and `6.15 lakh for SC/ST applicants. For general category applicants, a one BHK house will cost `11.20 lakh, a two BHK house will cost between `14.5 lakh and `17.6 lakh while a three BHK house will cost between `23 and `27 lakh depending on the location.
BDA has allotted 2,177 one BHK flats of 470 sqft, 519 two BHK houses of 830 sqft and 304 three BHK flats of 1,100 sqft.
