Minister for municipal administration and public enterprises Qamar-ul Islam was at the receiving end in the Legislative Council during the Question Hour on Tuesday when the Chairman of the House withheld a question related to his department for lack of information.
The incident took place when a JD(S) member sought information from the minister about the status of profit and loss in the state-owned companies.
The minister said that the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is one of the 26 state-owned enterprises which is making profits.
However, on Monday, Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy, during Question Hour, had informed the House that Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation had reported a revenue loss of over `147 crore due to various reasons, including that of revision of employees’ salaries.
Strongly rejecting the answer provided by the minister on Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, another JD(S) member Basavaraj Horatti sought to know whether the reply given by Quamarul Islam or that of Reddy is correct.
Intervening into the debate, the JD(S) group leader in the Council M C Nanaiah charged that the minister seems to have not bothered about to know the facts before presenting his reply in the House.
He appealed to the Chair to withhold the answer which seemed to be incomplete and vague.
